We love a good seasonal themed activity! By incorporating seasonal activities into speech and language therapy, therapists can create a dynamic, engaging, and contextually rich environments that supports the development of a wide range of communication skills. If you’re working throughout the summer, we wanted to share some of our top easy and LOW PREP summer themed activities to make your summer therapy a breeze. With these summer-themed activities, you’ll be all set for a season filled with growth, laughter, and engagement with your older students. 

1. Creative Writing Activities

This resource includes 5 realistic summer themed photos that you can pair with 4 different writing strategies. All writing strategies contain graphic organizers that are print-and-go and can be used with any picture. The writing strategies include: brainstorm mapping, unfreeze the scene, plot diagram, and 5 senses.

2. Summer Vocabulary Development

 This resource includes multiple vocabulary activities including a one-pager, word cube, word connect, word association, and more! This resource is great if you have vocabulary goals for your students. 

3. Caption it Summer Edition

Our “Caption It” series is a fun way to incorporate your students love for social media into the therapy room. This is a great resource that targets oral language, receptive language, and expressive language.  These task cards are perfect for students who have pragmatic and/or life skills goals. They can discuss different summer-themed problems, provide solutions, answer questions related to perspective taking, identifying emotions, and more!
