Whenever we introduce the topic of writing an argumentative essay our students are instantly anxious. Not only are they nervous about writing the 5 paragraph essay, they are also confused by the commonly used terms associated with writing an Argumentative Essay; claim, counterclaim, and rebuttal.
We are sharing a new visual we have been using with our students to further demonstrate the difference between claim, counterclaim, and rebuttal. We have this hanging in our room and sometimes we print out copies for our students to keep in their binders as a reference when they need to write an argumentative essay in their classes.
As Speech and Language Providers, we are always connecting a strategy we work on in the therapy room to what they are learning in their classrooms. The key to successfully working with high school students is keeping your speech and language therapy relevant to what they are learning during their school day.
This download can be printed and given to your students to take on-the-go and/or can be printed and put on the wall in your classroom.
