5 Reasons to get Teacher Feedback for your IEPs

Are you looking to find out how your students are doing in their classrooms but don’t have time to meet with teachers?  Getting teacher feedback for your IEP reports is a total game changer! Now you have an idea of how your student is doing beyond the four walls of your therapy room. Once we started using teacher feedback forms, collecting information about how our students were performing in their classes was so helpful and it made IEP writing so much easier!

Giving the teachers in your building the option to complete a teacher survey via Google forms or on paper greatly increases your chances of receiving completed surveys back. Although the responses vary, we usually are able to obtain enough information to give us an understanding of how the student is carrying over skills into their classrooms plus we are able to add a nice paragraph into our IEPs about how the student is performing in certain classes.

Read on for the top 5 reasons you should get teacher feedback for your IEPs:

1. Insight into student performance in other environments

Teachers interact with your students and can provide detailed observations on academic performance, behavior, and social interactions in the classroom setting. This provides a well-rounded understanding of the student’s needs in the classroom.

2. Identify strengths and weaknesses

Teachers can highlight specific areas where the student excels and where they face challenges. This information is crucial for tailoring the IEP to address the students unique strengths and weaknesses, ensuring more effective and targeted support.

3. Collaborative planning

Teacher feedback fosters a collaborative environment where educators, parents, and specialists can discuss and strategize together. Collaboration ensures that everyone is working towards the same objectives, providing consistent support and interventions across different settings and interactions.

4. Enhancing communication between team members

Feedback forms serve as a communication bridge between you and other IEP team members. They provide a structured way for teachers to convey their observations and concerns. Open communication channels facilitate the timely resolution of issues and the sharing of new ideas and strategies to support the student.

5. Progress monitoring

Feedback forms allow teachers to discuss your students’ progress over time. Regular feedback allows for continuous monitoring of the student’s progress, making it easier to adjust strategies and goals based on what is working or needs improvement. This helps you assess whether the student is carrying over their goals into the classroom.
